What's New at Scientists in School (SiS)
Finding Stuff Out, a new science program for kids now on TVO
Scientists in School is pleased to announce the broadcast premiere of FINDING STUFF OUT, a new, science-based kids TV series for TVO, on which Scientists in Schools participated as a content advisor.
In FINDING STUFF OUT, energetic and hilarious young host, Harrison, produces the most amped-up webcast in the universe, a webcast devoted to gathering cool questions from real kids and using science to find out the answers to them! Each episode has its own theme which is founded on one basic question. For example, in the Colour episode Harrison is asked by one of his young viewers, "Is snow really white?" This question sends Harrison on an exciting adventure where along the way he gets to interview an animal expert and a physicist (plus much, much more!).
Each episode features a variety of segments, such as "Do Try This At Home!" or "My Great Challenge," where Harrison demonstrates for kids how they themselves can perform fun science experiments. These segments help kids relate to the themes being covered in the show, allowing them to participate and learn along with Harrison. For example, in the Moon episode, using nothing more than a light, their wits, and funny headgear, Harrison asks his in-studio challengers to figure out why the moon is sometimes full and why at times, it disappears!
Themes covered in Finding Stuff Out, during this 16-episode season include:
- Colour (Episode 1)
- Insects (Episode 2)
- Moon (Episode 3)
- Language (Episode 4)
- Sleep (Episode 5)
